Get to know - Rules

Rules are the backbone of your reservations. Learn what they are and how they work.

WHAT ARE RULES?

Rules are what make the system operate.

The rules you create will dictate the following: What days you are open, what times are available for booking, how many people can book at once, and more.

How do rules work?
Our rules operate in layers. These layers are the instructions that tell the your booking flow how to operate.

LAYER 1 RULE

The layer 1 rule tells the system what days are open for Bookings/Experiences.

The layer 1 rule is the easiest to set up and only requires a few basic instructions to work.

The layer 1 rule must have a day of the week or date added.

If the restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday, chose that from the drop-down menu. If you only open for preselected dates, select the date, month and year.

If you're using experience, select the experience in the Experiences field, set online booking to on, and mark it as active. Click Save to finish.

A complete layer 1 rule should look like this:

LAYER 2 RULE

The layer 2 rule tells the system what timeslots are available for booking and how many people can be seated.

The layer 2 rule also controls:

  • Duration - Set a duration that's different from the one in advanced settings.

  • Max Total Guest - Limit how many people can book.

  • Max Bookings - Limit how many bookings you can take.

  • Turnaround Time - Allocate time between seatings (to clean the table, etc.)

  • No-Show - Add a no-show fee.

  • Meals - Select the meals you want to cover.

As pictured above, this rule tells the system that it should be open all week, take bookings from 12.00 to 16.30 for the lunch experience, and that 1-9 people can book online.

A complete layer 2 rule, should look like this:

Note:

Layer 1 and layer 2 rules are necessary for the system to operate. You have the option to be more specific with the layer 3 rule.

LAYER 3 RULE

The layer 3 rule determines how the system operates for different timeslots.

For example, this rule limits the number of people/bookings you can get at different intervals.

For the layer 3 rule to work, set up the following:

  • Weekdays - Limit specific dates.

  • From time - The timeslot you're trying to restrict.

  • To time - The end time. If you're restricting one timeslot, select "none".

  • Meal - Specify to which meal the rule applies.

  • Experience - Only filled out if you want to limit the experience.

  • Online booking - Set to on. Set to off to close a booking slot.

Examples of layer 3 rules:

The restriction rule - Restricting how many people can book at a certain time.

The closing rule - Turns off a time interval - 15.00 - 16.00.

The closing rule 2 - Turns off the 15.00 interval for the lunch experience.

Pro tip:
Open your booking link while creating new rules. That way you can see them take effect at once and make sure it's working as planned.
