How to create product variants

This guide explains how to add variants to products so customers can choose from multiple options under one product button.

What are product variants?

Product variants allow you to offer multiple versions of the same product under a single menu item.

Common examples:

  • Dumplings: Pork, Chicken, Vegetarian
  • Pizza: Small, Medium, Large
  • Coffee: Regular, Decaf, Oat Milk
  • Burger: Beef, Chicken, Veggie

Use variants when you have:
  • One product with multiple size options
  • Same dish with different protein choices
  • Items with different flavor or ingredient options
  • Products from the same category that should be grouped together

Creating product variants

Step 1: access your products

  1. Log into your Backoffice
  • From the home page, click INVENTORY
  • Click PRODUCTS

  1. Select or create the main product
  • Open an existing product or create a new one

Step 2: add variants

  1. Navigate to variants section
  • Scroll to the VARIANTS section

  1. Add variant details
  • In the VARIANT field, type the name of the variant
  • Example: "Pork Dumplings", "Chicken Dumplings", "Vegetarian Dumplings"

  1. Configure variant settings
  • SKU: Set unique identifier (same process as adding a new product)
  • STOCK: Enter quantity available
  • PRICING: Set the price for this variant

  1. Add more variants
  • Click the ADD button to create additional variants
  • Repeat the process for each variant

  1. Click SAVE PRODUCT to save all variants

How variants appear in the Superb POS

When staff tap on the product in POS:

  • All variants appear as selectable options
  • Staff can choose the specific variant the customer wants
  • Only one product button is needed for all variants

Best practices

Naming variants:

  • Use clear, descriptive names
  • Keep names consistent across similar products
  • Example: "Small", "Medium", "Large" not "Sm", "Med", "Lg"

Pricing variants:

  • Set individual prices for each variant if they differ
  • Use the same price if all variants cost the same

Stock management:

  • Track stock separately for each variant
  • Update quantities regularly

Example setup

Main product: Dumplings

Variants:

  1. Pork Dumplings €8.50
  2. Chicken Dumplings €8.50
  3. Vegetarian Dumplings €7.50

Result in POS: One "Dumplings" button that shows three options when tapped

Important notes

All variants must be from the same product category

Each variant can have its own SKU, stock level, and price

Variants are saved together with the main product

Changes to the main product don't automatically apply to variants
